Well, I don’t know about you but I absolutely overdid it this holiday season.
Home-made desserts, cocktails instead of water, and overflowing plates.. oops.
Anyone else? remember … sh*t happens, don’t stress about it.
Now that the new year is here it’s a perfect time to get back on track, so let’s talk about
3 ways you can recover from a holiday binge…
1. Fight Sugar with Fiber
The oh-so-sexy topic of fiber. If you indulged in loads of sugary treats and drinks over the holidays fiber is going to be your new bff. Going to town on sugar will leave us with major cravings and bloating. Fiber will slow down the absorption of sugars in the body and help to reduce that belly bloat. Try adding ground flax seeds to your smoothies or get yourself a big ol’ salad.
2. Show Your Liver Some Love
Have a couple glasses of champagne this holiday season? All that drinking can cause your liver to become sluggish, and not running optimally. You may find that you are more fatigued than usual, especially when you first wake up – this is due to a sluggish liver. Also, a healthy liver helps control your weight – so if one of your new year’s resolutions is to lose a few pounds, it’s a good idea to get your liver in good shape asap.
The best thing to do is incorporate more foods that naturally cleanse your liver into your diet. My favorite way to cleanse the liver is my Detox Elixir (from the lazy girl’s guide to detox) or some warm water with half of a lemon in it.
Other great options are garlic, broccoli and any citrus foods. I also love to add green tea because it speeds up the metabolism, is super high in antioxidants, and is hydrating.
3. Whole Food Detox
This is my personal favourite way to recover from any holiday binging, a whole food detox gives the digestive system a break from over-eating and removes food that irritates the digestive tract.
Also, when we over-eat the stretch receptors on our stomachs start to become unresponsive to our stomach getting full. Then you are suddenly so full that you think you will never eat again, just to find yourself looking for a snack in a few hours. A whole food detox can shrink your stomach back to pre-holiday size and introduce nutrients that will reduce bloating and increase energy.
